in this mode, the UDgateway is totally transparent at the IP level, and can be inserted between the LAN and the modem or router, without needing any reconfiguration of the devices on the network. In Bridge mode, the UDgateway will perform HTTP prefetching and caching, CIFS (Windows File Sharing) acceleration, TCP protocol optimization, Quality of Service traffic prioritization and extreme data compression with WANcompress.
in this mode the UDgateway becomes the new Default IP Gateway for the devices on the LAN. In addition to the optimizations present in the bridge mode, the UDgateway performs DNS caching, SMTP Mail Relay, and additional networking functions such as DHCP server/relay, Network address translation, firewall.
this mode is available on top of the Routed Mode. It allows creation of Tunnels between UDgateways. Tunnels can be used for the purpose of overcoming complex addressing situations and deal with Link Management scenarios like redundancy, switching and aggregation. Furthermore tunnels can optionally be authenticated and encrypted (up to AES256) in order to secure a connection between UDgateways. These security functions are particularly adapted to networks including bandwidth constraints, losses and very long delays.
The UDgateway is installed at both the remote and central site. The remote site unit is installed between Indoor Unit (IDU) or wireless modem and the local area network. The central site UDgateway is typically installed in the network’s Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) or in the Service Providers infrastructure and can be configured for either point to point, star or mesh network topologies.
Configuration and Monitoring of the UDgateway is performed via Web interface, Command Line Interface or SNMP. UDgateways coming from the factory are immediately operational in Bridge Mode thanks to Zero-Configuration functionality.
The UDgateway can be factory-equipped with the Ethernet Bypass option, which will connect the LAN and WAN ports in case of malfunction. The high-end units are delivered with mission-critical redundancy features like dual hot-swappable power supplies and RAID mirrored hard drives.
